There are many reasons to visit the beautiful Southwest, a land of mystery, magic and mayhem—and shifters.

Sometimes a wolf is just a wolf…except when it's more. Shifters roam the Southwest, in packs and alone, struggling to survive. When it's discovered, by one wounded outcast, that gay shifters also have destined mates, the shifter world is forced to rethink its beliefs. A change in the shifter hierarchy is shaking up the packs, making new rules and forcing the shifters' archaic ways out the door. For some, the changes may come too late; their faith in their fellow shifters has been shattered.

For others, the changes are embraced with open minds and hearts—and a hope that burns deep inside. To be accepted, part of the pack, instead of living with the threat of being shunned for their sexual preferences—many shifters are free for the first time. They have the hope of finding their destined mates, men who fill the emptiness in their souls.

But not everyone in the shifter world is willing to accept the changes, destined mates or not. They don't want their ways to change, and they will do anything, no matter how evil, to keep the packs under their power.

About Bailey Bradford

A native Texan, Bailey spends her days spinning stories around in her head, which has contributed to more than one incident of tripping over her own feet. Evenings are reserved for pounding away at the keyboard, as are early morning hours. Sleep? Doesn't happen much. Writing is too much fun, and there are too many characters bouncing about, tapping on Bailey's brain demanding to be let out.

Caffeine and chocolate are permanent fixtures in Bailey's office and are never far from hand at any given time. Removing either of those necessities from Bailey's presence can result in what is known as A Very, Very Scary Bailey and is not advised under any circumstances.

5 stars = I freaking LOVED this book!!!

It’s no secret that I love the Southwestern Shifters series and loved that I got to gorge myself on the series in August. So you won’t be shocked to learn that I was beyond thrilled when I found out about Retrograde’s release and I nearly went through the roof when I discovered that Bradford had written it as another chapter in Marcus and Nathan’s life. I love all of the couples in the series and each has a special place in my heart, but with all the Nathan has dealt with as Marcus was under attack from more than one quarter, it felt right for them to get another installment in the series and Bradford managed to make me love this couple even more than I already did.

Because of assassination attempts and challenges for Marcus’s position, Nathan has been on edge for a while and having to kill another individual (even one who was bad) in order to save Marcus’s life makes that edge even finer. It’s not that Nathan regrets saving Marcus’s life or even that he killed to do so, but rather that he was forced to take another’s life. Having been raised by a human, Nathan still finds the easy acceptance of violence among shifters too much to bear at times. Sensing that his mate needs to get away and realizing that they need a chance to reinforce their bond before an upcoming conference of the Alpha Anaxes, Marcus makes arrangements for a short getaway for just the two of them. Having the chance to let their wolves run free in a safe environment that’s not fenced in, to spend time alone with just the two of them, and to connect sexually on a more primal level does wonders for both men. Yet even on vacation they can’t seem to get away from the needs of other wolves when they discover a wild pack of young shifters who know nothing about the shifter society. Thank goodness Marcus and Nathan know of a wolf who loves to take in strays – Gabe. But when demands of Marcus’s position require that they return to the compound, they are once again faced with treachery when another plot to take out an AA is discovered. For once, Marcus wasn’t the target but because it was being attempted in his home it affected him no less. Thankfully Marcus has a pack filled with loyal and intelligent shifters who were able to help thwart yet another assassination attempt and strengthen ties with other honorable AAs.

Retrograde was another excellent addition to the Southwestern Shifters series. I loved watching Nathan and Marcus get back to nature so to speak and embrace their wolf so fully. It was obvious it did them good mentally, but it also made for some smoking hot sex scenes. They were lucky they didn’t start a forest fire with as hot as they got. I liked that Bradford made another AA the target in this novel and that for once Marcus didn’t have the bullseye on his back. I found his handling of the territory situation to be very telling of the kind of man Marcus is – a good man who only wants what’s best for all shifters. I loved meeting Lexxie and hope to see more of her in the future and learning more about her heritage. That Bradford foreshadowed the changes that are coming for Marcus and his pack made me so freaking happy because that means more books are in the future. But the end. Oh my word was the end sweet. I mean… We’ve got puppies!

Things are changing and they’re coming fast, what Marcus and Nathan needs is some time alone to decide what to do but their private vacation is interrupted when they discover a pack of young shifters barely surviving in this gripping paranormal romance. There was no way that I could stop reading this story once I began because the story is chock full of emotional turmoil, excitement and passion all involving one of my favorite couples, Marcus and Nathan, and I have to tell you I can’t wait to find out what happens next with all those changes and of course that important event will be the most exciting for them in the years to come.

I totally enjoyed this series I love the whole true mate love in a day thing and I just love all the adventures they had I'm so sad to see this series end. I really wanted more books about where they move to sigh I hope ms Bradford continues it.

Before this book I had so much social stress and anxiety that it was ruining me whenever I would go out in public or even when I was just with my family and friends. This book gave me hope to change and no did not have all of my answers but definitely helped me in my journey in becoming better and making myself less stressed and have less social anxiety. The book is very organized and informative. It is a complete guide to utilizing the power of NLP.

Realistic Assessment of Pocahontas and Her Conversion to Christianity

Well written and balanced view of the life of Pocahontas, who willingly became a Christ-follower through the influence of several English settlers in Jamestown and successive settlements. From her first encounter with Captain John Smith to her biblical education by the Rev. Alexander Whitaker aided by Deputy Governor Thomas Dale to her romance with Gentleman John Rolfe, Snyder makes a strong case that this was no forced conversion to a cultural English religion, rather a real experience with Jesus Christ through people who followed him, through the witness of Scripture, and by the grace of God. Snyder does not pull any punches. He portrays the English realistically in all of their own shortcomings and sin. Yet he argues forcefully that Pocahontas, who chose the biblical name Rebekah (from Genesis 24-25) at her baptism, was discerning enough to understand human depravity and still accept the truth of the Gospel. This is a must read for students of Pocahontas, the first permanent settlements in America,as well as those who are interested in the history of cross-cultural missions.

Charles Baudelaire's 'Paris Spleen' (1869) is a wonderfully original work, one happily outside the framework of American literature and its broad range of sensibilities.

Most notably, these 51 short prose poems illustrate how truth, and the most accurate perceptions of life possible, can be reached by honing the senses and then melding them with the more passive facilities of the mind; logic and rational thinking, as demonstrated here, are for the vulgar, those in denial, those simply unable to accept the very rich, self-evident smorgasbord of life.

Baudelaire, both a tragic and a comedic clown, also effortlessly illustrates how melancholy and joy are by no means mutually exclusive categories of human experience.

Set largely against autumnal landscapes, the wandering poet indulges in "the mysterious and aristocratic pleasure of watching" whenever he is not a direct participant in the events these visionary pieces describe. Solitary, "fluent in outrage," cranky, lovelorn, misanthropic, and pedagogical by turns, these pieces find the poet stalking bereaved widows, peering unseen through the candle-lit windows of neighbor's homes, asking philosophical questions of "enigmatical" strangers, shunning crowds, greeting the twilight with a bow, reading the time of day in a cat's eyes, "beating the poor," and listening, eavesdropping, and relentlessly observing wherever he goes.

Not surprisingly, the poet's vision of urban Paris lies somewhere between the canvases of Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec: garishly colored, grotesque, heavily populated with heaving women and friable grande dames, Baudelaire's city is a stage for life's pantomime, open to and allowing for all combinations and possibilities. By contrast, his autumnal countryside is a place of relative purity, where the poet wanders alone under stark blue skies and roaming, shadow-casting clouds.

In one of the more hallucinatory episodes, the poet, "under a vast gray sky, on a vast and dusty plain" comes upon a procession of men with "worn and serious faces," each of whom carries a very large, monstrous "chimera" on his back, the muscles, tendons and limbs of the beasts wrapped tightly around them. None the wiser after asking these men his litany of inevitable questions, the poet observes that "under the depressing dome of the sky" the men moved past and beyond him, each "with the resigned look of men who are condemned to hope forever."

'Paris Spleen' is a wise, serious and dour work. But if its only occasionally tragic underpinnings and conclusions can be embraced by its audience, then its vibrant, bawdy and transcendent aspect reveals itself shamelessly in turn. Baudelaire is so confident, unselfconscious, and plain-spoken that his perceptions are remarkably easy to visualize, his emotions as expressed surprisingly easy to relate to. Few books are as multi-prismed as this.

The poet implies that if man could accept mortality, reasonably subdue his ego, and curb his more flagrant dreams, life would begin to resemble the far from perfect, but certainly tolerable and potentially enjoyable, miracle that it actually is.

Baudelaire seems to have reached the same conclusion that Isak Dinsen did at the end of her memoir, 'Out Of Africa' (1937): man must accept, without exclusion, every facet, aspect, element, and component of existence before existence--before life--will give anything back to him.

Perfectly translated by Louise Varese, this edition allows the non-poet to see, however briefly, as a poet sees.

I used this book my freshmen year of college in an English class. It was very interesting and insightful. Although the read is very hard to understand because of the language, if your are able to take the time to really think about the messages and look up the meanings of the really hard ones, you will find that it makes a lot of sense. I liked and thought it made me step out of my normal realm of thinking.
