Lin Zhang is Assistant Professor at Korea University Law School, South Korea. Formerly Lecturer in Law at College of Humanities and Law of Shandong University of Science and Technology, China. In the past five years he has published 9 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has written a book about the adaptive efficiency of the corporate governance of Chinese state-controlled listed companies, published in 2011. Lin holds a PhD in Law from Hong Kong University.

About the Author
Paul Elsner, Ed.D., (Senior Editor) received his doctorate from Stanford University and completed study at the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. He is the Senior Editor of this Global Survey publication and the 2008 Edition. He serves on the Board of Directors for Sias International University in Zhengzhou, PRC, and has spoken and consulted in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Ireland, England, South Africa, and other countries. Elsner gave the Third Robert Atwell Distinguished lecture, following the first given by Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, and the second by Harvard President Neal Rudenstein. His previous appointments include ETS Board Chair at Princeton and the ACT Board at Iowa City. He also served as President of the Board for the League for Innovation and numerous Washington-based educational organizations and served as Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges for 23 years. He is currently Founding Chair and Organizer of the Sias International Water and Global Warming Conference.

It is like an AD&D Player's Handbook for Norrath

I think of this guidebook like it is an AD&D Player's Handbook for the Champions of Norrath game, for those that are familiar with D&D games from past years.

I played through Champions of Norrath last summer and beat it on Normal setting using a Wood Elf Ranger - without having a guidebook (I did use an online FAQ). I loved the game so much - it is such fun - pure action, with many of the old D&D attributes that I love from way back in the 80's playing with dice. Because so much of the game is randomly generated level maps, and because the character classes are so different from each other and the game is so deep with weapons, options, etc., I knew I would return to play it again several times. So I found this Prima guide online on Amazon and ordered a used copy for a really cheap price before my current, second go-around in Norrath.

I'm happy I did. The guide is 136 pages, and it really reminds me of the old Player's Handbook in that it is very deep in laying out the various character classes, with strategies, pictures, the skill trees, detailed stat tables for skills and spells, etc. It has unbelievably deep and detailed armor and weapons tables (this game has more statistical variables than I ever imagined the first time through it). The guidebook is geared toward helping you select a character, and know some strategy and exactly what the stats will be for the thousands of different combinations this game allows.

As far as a walkthrough, it is really more of a beast compendium and paragraph-type summary of various areas, dungeon levels, boss fights, etc., than a true step-by-step walkthrough. If you want step-by-step detail, this will not be what you are looking for. It's probably not even possible, given the random generation nature of the level maps. If you want a physical, paper, full-color book that functions like a Player's Handbook for Norrath, you will like this. I'm glad I got it, especially at such a low price for used. This game is one of the best ever and has super-high replay value.

This book is targeting readers who are new to electronics. The content is very basic and the language is kept simple - about on the same level with what is taught in some high schools. Math is simple and also very well explained. Any concepts discussed in the book are explained from ground up. You are not just presented with how something works but the author helps you discover it yourself from the very foundation throughout the book why things work as they do.

The book starts to explain conductors and insulators and what current and voltage really means. Next resistors are discussed with Kirchoff's and Ohm's laws. Once this foundation is built, the book moves on to explore the difference between DC and AC and how to calculate impedances with capacitors and inductors before the book starts to dive into semiconductors. The common semiconductors such as diodes, bipolar transistors, and different FETs are explained. The last chapters talk about linear (analog) and digital integrated circuits. The appendix has some valuable information about thermionic (vacuum) tubes which are still found today in high powered radio transmitters.

The book is an easy read and helps the newbie to understand the basics of electronics. The book teaches more than you need for the Technician or General exam but less than what is required for the Extra.

Intro Electronics

"Understanding Basic Electronics" provides a simplified vehicle for learning electronics theory. While this is published by the ARRL and aimed at the amateur radio audience, it provides the fundamentals of electronic theory to work with micro controllers or audio equipment. The math required has been simplified with the use of calculators. Even a reference is provided on using the calculator. While an introductory text, the material includes information on digital devices and circuits and even some theory on vacuum tube operation. In all an excellent text that would benefit from more examples and sample problems to work out.

Best basic electronics book out there

I have read several introductions to electronics over the years, and this is the best I've found. True, there are no experiments, but it gives you a solid foundation of knowledge for moving on to more advanced books. Highly recommended.
