Its a small book of around 250 pages that deals specifically with non-equilibrium MOS devices and gives in great detail the physics that goes behind the construction of the SRAM and DRAM. The part on DRAM deserves special mention,I cant recollect any other text that so clearly elucidates its structure - drawing comparisions between charge coupled devices which it resembles partly and basic design of the one transistor cell as the circuit element.It firmly drives home the point as to why a refresh cycle is essential in dynamic RAM by pointing out the inherent non-equlibrium condition of the MOS capacitor and its spontaneity to move into a more stable regime due to electron-hole pair generation that tends to fill up the depleted potential well under the storage gate.And if you want to get a simple yet detailed view of advanced MOS concepts by slightly side-stepping quantum phenomena, the last chapter of the book does that very well.Since no 'inside-search' on the book is available here on Amazon,I shall in brief mention the chapters for the benefit of the interested reader. Ch1. MOS and generation-recombination phenomena,Ch2.Material and Device Characterization,Ch3.Charged Coupled Devices, Ch4.Charged Coupled Devices Applications, Ch5.Semiconductor Memories, Ch6.Advanced MOS concepts.

worth reading

An interesting essay on journalistic ethics. However, reading the rebuttal that McGinniss has appended to the newest edition of "Fatal Vision" the argument could be made that Janet Malcolm also played fast and loose with her reporting of the MacDonald v. McGuiniss lawsuit. Given her scant attention to the facts of the MacDonald murder case, you could get the impression from this book that MacDonald is innocent of the murder of his wife and daughters when in fact the evidence is overwhelmingly against MacDonald. A good read, but you need to read McGinniss' rebuttal to make a fair assessment.

Quick Read, Fascinating Look at Truth and Integrity in Journalism

The Journalist and the Murderer is really a must-read for aspiring journalists, and writers, and anyone interested in what goes into postmodern character development. Malcom - with whom I disagree, as a human - asserts that there is a cynical and manipulative relationship that governs all interactions between interviewer and interviewed, and to ignore this is to either be disingenuous or naive. The story follows how she came to conclude that journalist and author Joe MacGuinness was a jerk, and the subject of a book of his, a convicted mass murderer, was innocent.

The book makes for compelling reading. It's well written. It examines terrifically interesting topics from an interesting perspective. Paradoxically, it espouses and falls victim to many of the very biases and assertions that Malcom herself describes as bad, or in poor taste, and, ultimately, one is left with the sense that she doesn't like herself very much.

Amazing book. The author explores the behaviour of a journalist who ingratiated himself into the life of a man (a doctor) on trial (and convicted) for murdering his wife. The journalist misrepresented himself to the doctor as being a supporter of his innocence; but actually fossicked and exploited what he learned to write a book completely crucifying the doctor. Malcolm’s book looks at the ethics of what the journalist did. This book is incredibly compelling and fascinating. Highly recommend!

I saw this book at a Boy Scout University of Scouting. I knew I needed to buy it after thumbing through it. Superb book on how to tie all kinds of working knots, and has an equally outstanding section on lashings. The lashings section also has useful structures that can be built using lashings.

Robert Liguori, (Abescon, NJ) OCA, SCJP, has been a Senior Software Engineer since 1996 and is currently the lead developer for several Java based air traffic management applications. Mr. Liguori has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Technology from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Mr. Liguori is also the President of the Atlantic City Java User Group.

In general I think they do a good job of explaining the material

I read this book and took the test and passed.

The books is structured really well and covers everything you need to know. There are no grammatical errors and the authors write extremely well. In general I think they do a good job of explaining the material. There are, however, a few places where there are some mistakes. They need to get an errata going and fix those asap.

Here was my biggest complaint: The sample questions and mock test that they provide you on the CD is in no way shape or form representative of the level of difficulty of the questions on the real test. I finished test one from the CD in about 45 minutes to an hour and scored about 90%. On the real test I needed every moment of the 2 1/2 hours and got a much lower score. Of course I still passed.

Perhaps the kaplan tests are more realistic.

Aviation weather finally presented in pleasant format.

As a student private pilot it's easy to get too much dull information in front of you that must be sifted through to find practical pearls. Aviation Weather by Peter Lester comes closest of the many sources for weather information out there that gives relevant and beautifully formatted information in a succinct presentation. It's hard to make METAR and TAF abbreviations readable to a new student, but this Jeppesen book trys to at least tie them in with all the other weather information available, and show many different sources available to pilots for their preflight briefing.

This book was full of theory. Theory is important up to a point . I got all of the information contained in this book in a cheaper book Aviation Weather and Weather Services (Gleim)

Practical weather was contained to small paragraphs in the last chapter of the book. As an instrument pilot I found the very little information on the actual flying aspect. Classroom oriented, certainly not cockpit oriented.

I had a lot of other power points from my professors so this book was a lot like a supplement for me.
It covers the basic theories well, Lapse rates, TS, cyclones, etc.
It is a quick weather reference for pilots and anyone else who takes a similar interest.

Worth the read.

As a history buff and someone who enjoys politics, this book was a pleasure to read. While it was a bit dry sometimes, I absolutely loved it for the rich history behind her time living in exile and being detained when going back to Russia, only to find out later that she the officials who detained her were worried that she'd could have easily given one of her speeches and rallied the soldiers behind her (and still being able to take part in her activism despite living elsewhere). I wish she had gone into more detail about her travels in the U.S., but it's understandable why she didn't. It was a joy to read the autobiography of the original socialist-feminist (although she might take issue with that label, I still feel it's true).

It's applicable to any sport, and indeed, Steve argues, to life itself.What prompted you to write your first book about golf?Curiously I'm a keen golfer, but far less obsessed with golf than many people would expect. I am far more consumed by the awesome power of our mind, and how we can use it to unleash our hidden potential in all areas of our lives. Golf was the ideal entry point, because it is the one of the few sports where the mind is at least as important as technical ability, especially at the highest level.Why the connection with 'Magic' in the title 'Play Magic Golf'?I have a child-like fascination with magic in all its forms. We can learn how to perform card tricks, but we will never understand the magic that surrounds us in the natural world. How does a spider know how to construct its intricate web? How does a salmon swim thousands of miles to return to its birthplace? How do some people survive the most appalling illnesses and adversities? This is the essence of magic, and there is a lot of magic in golf too.Who is your favourite golfer?I have several, all for different reasons. Despite his recent problems Tiger Woods has taken the game to a new level, and attracted millions of new fans to a sport that has been seen as elitist, and frankly boring. I like Rory McIlroy because of his youthful innocence and massive raw talent. My favourite is Caroline. She was my first client, and her 3 holes-in-one in quick succession grabbed people's attention. She didn't follow all my advice, but then wives rarely do.Your love of golf comes out in the book, how long have you played golf?I first started at the age of 14, but it was a lot more expensive then to get started than it is now. I also spent most of my life working in developing countries, so there were few opportunities to play. Now I spend most of my time in England, have more opportunities, but a lot less time than I imagined.Who will enjoy the book the most, the gals or the guys?I hope my book will resonate with people from all segments of society, and of all ages. As far as I can tell it does. I enjoy the notes from many men and women who write to me about their golfing stories. I also know some of our top teenagers like the book too. They are mad keen about their golf, though I think they prefer the audiobook version.How long have you been writing?If you include writing boring business reports and research papers then I've been writing all my working life. I've only been writing stuff I enjoy for four years. I started with a 30-minute audiobook which became an instant international best-seller. Previously I would never have believed I had a book in me. I learnt the priceless lesson that if you can write a paragraph you can write a page, then a chapter, and before you know it you have something that resembles a book .I should have worked this out a lot sooner, but better late than never.Any plans for future books?When I finished writing 'Play Magic Golf' my only plan was never to write another book. Curiously I soon realised that writing had insidiously become an important part of my life, and now I can't imagine a life without it. So there are lots of plans. Certainly the next book will be written for a wider audience. There are so many ways we can all enrich our lives by more effectively harnessing our brain power. Often the most important step is ditching the self-limiting beliefs we learnt at school, and in later life.

About the Author
I have lived in war-torn Angola, the swamps of Nigeria, the steppes of Kazakhstan and the deserts of Oman. As an international Medical and HR Director I was privileged to work with many world leaders, including Bill Clinton, and was a task force member of the World Economic Forum, and Global Business Coalition.
Less pleasantly I was mugged, imprisoned, shot at, mortared, almost killed in a helicopter incident, experienced near-fatal malaria, the less serious dengue, dysentery, and the dubious delights of Tumbu infection. I also enjoyed fighting against esoteric tropical diseases, such as Marburg. This is a variety of Ebola, and just about the deadliest disease on the planet. I was part of the team that responded to the World's largest ever outbreak of Marburg, in Angola.

A Fascinating Read

I have known Steve Simpson for almost 40 years since we were at medical school together. Although we had hugely different backgrounds we shared many of the same interests (including beer) and even though my left brain and his right took us on widely divergent paths professionally and geographically, we have remained brothers over all these years. We both have a rather annoying (to others) habit that any social occasion on which we meet very quickly becomes a philosophical exploration of how and why we and others we know well have taken the trajectories through life that have led us to where we are, what we have learned along the way, and where we may be headed in the future.

I am almost totally indifferent to golf. Steve is not, but he asked me to read his book because it touches on some of the areas we have debated and discussed for many years. He may not agree, but "Play Magic Golf" is not about golf at all, any more than "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" was a Harley Davidson manual.

Much of what Steve writes about is common sense, but that kind of common sense which sits elusively just out of reach for most people until it is pointed out, and then they can only marvel at how they hadn't seen it before. Much is analytical in a very left brain way (sorry, Steve!) reminiscent of the classical stoic philosophy schools. Some is speculative, some wildly speculative, but in a very challenging and thought-provoking way.

Who would benefit from reading this fairly short book? Certainly golfers would, and probably other sportsmen, but as I said, it isn't a book about golf or even sport and it would be a pity if the readership was limited to sportsmen. It is a book about the intricate and fascinating way that the human mind is the warp to the weft of our everyday lives and achievements and relationships, and it is as relevant to physicians and plumbers, too. It is a celebration of choosing rather than simply reacting, and a handbook of exercises for strengthening the virtual muscles needed to direct the mind in positive directions instead of simply being an observer as it bounces randomly off the walls. Discussion of these concepts can all too easily descend into turgidity or sanctimony, but Dr Simpson avoids those traps to produce an enjoyable and often thought-provoking book.

Easy to follow and helps with day to day hassle's.

Easy to follow book that will be a perfect gift for all my friends and family that play golf and other stress inducing sports, but I can see how it will help people with stressful jobs too - I found several of the methods useful for my day to day hassles with my newborn. Entertaining and enjoyable to read too.

Very disappointing.

Have you noticed not one five star review? Don't waste your money on this book. It is more like a long newspaper story on positive self talk, self hypnosis, mindfullness, and other psychological motivators without any instruction on how to use them. The author rambles from subject to subject and even admits he has attention deficit disorder. Where was his Editor?

The book's jacket is really misleading because there is little detail and weak research. I was very disappointed.
